The Veteto Foundation was created in 2006 by Burton and Mark Veteto as a platform to give something back to the community of Hobbs, New Mexico. The purpose of the Veteto Foundation is to further public education in the city of Hobbs by encouraging teachers to stay in the profession of teaching. The organizers of the foundation, Burton and Mark, recognize that often the brightest and best in the teaching profession leave to pursue more lucrative careers. The Veteto Foundation will attempt to encourage these teachers to stay in their teaching career by recognizing five teachers actively teaching in one of the Hobbs Municipal Public Schools each year with cash awards. These cash awards are in the amount of $5,000 per teacher. The awards have been given to five outstanding teachers annually since 2007. These teachers are selected from a pool of nominees by a committee. Members of the committee are citizens of the Hobbs community and cannot be related to the organizers of the Veteto Foundation.
